Easy Ottoman Update

Ottomans that need a little change? No problem, Frug-Elegant furniture upgrades are one of our favorite DIY projects…

We love storage ottomans for their multi purpose usage. Put side by side, they make a great coffee table. They look great as end tables. Strong enough for sitting on..  & of course for storage.  So we were thrilled to find these on our local Facebook “for sale” group for only $8!

They are a pretty color but just don’t go with our decor!

Thank you to Rustoleum for sponsoring our project! Our opinions are 100% always are own!

Items needed: Rustoleum’s Fabric & Vinyl Spray Paint. Whoahoo, no paintbrushes to clean. When spraying painting, always read & follow the product’s directions. We do recommend wearing a protective mask (lightweight disposable kind is great) and spray outdoors or in a very well vented area.

We start by spraying a light coat in a side to side direction.

It took several coats to cover the original color.

For both ottomans, we used 4 cans of paint.

The original ottoman was a soft velour type of material, not smooth like vinyl or leather, so now there is a light “rougher” texture to the ottomans.  If you are looking to keep the softness to your material, this is not an option for you. Our ottomans now match our decor & we are very happy with the new look.

They fit perfectly into our media / teen hangout room.

Spray painting these ottomans did not take a lot of “skill” or “craftiness”.  Just like most of our DIY projects, we love easy to do projects (so we have time to get everything else done LOL!). This whole project took only a few hours to paint & dry. And for a total of under $30 we now have 2 storage ottomans!

Yes Melanie, in the past it wouldve been a deal we pass up because the color didnt match. Making it work for our space & saving a lot of $$ at the same time is a big plus in our book 😉

What an easy update. I had no idea you could spray paint furniture. I love those ottomans because they double as storage. 😉 Definitely pinning this one. Stumbling and tweeting as well. <3

Hi Michelle, unfortunately it loses its softness but for our project we were a ok with that. 😉
