The Baby Shower was fabulous! Now, we’d like to share with you our secret garden dessert table and the frugelegant details that came together so beautifully…
Garden Party Dessert Plates & Napkins from Oriental Trading’s wedding line are elegant, affordable & beautiful. Using items already owned and around the house we love small vases to use as holders for flowers & utensils. We are big fans of collecting small Fenton White Hobnail Milk Glass pieces in thrift stores & online. They add such a special touch when entertaining. Another little touch with big impact is labeling foods & beverages with place card holders.
One of our favorite cake recipes.. Hummingbird Cake! You might recall we have shared a Bundt Hummingbird Cake Recipe and our original Best Hummingbird Cake Recipe… and now we are creating a rustic chic layered hummingbird cake.
Following the same recipe as our Best Hummingbird Cake Recipe. Only frost the top and in between each layer. *Tip- Place a piece of parchment or wax paper onto the wood slice serving tray and then add your layer of cake to start putting cake together. It will be easier to slide parchment off than actually transfer the finished cake onto the tray.
Some secret garden finishing touches- Some fresh cut greens, from our local Trader Joe’s, are placed around the wood slice serving tray. And around the cake edible flowers – beautiful & super cool aren’t they!? If you rather not use fresh cut or the time of the year doesn’t work for you, there are excellent artificial greenery options available at local craft stores or online. Boy, have they improved from the old days of looking like bright green plastic. LOL!
Donuts! A simple & easy upgrade to store bought donuts is to add some fun icing swirls. We filled two baggies each with icing, one pink and one white. Push the icing so a bottom corner is filled most and then twist the top of bag around several times so no icing will come out. Using a scissor, cut off a small corner on the bag and its ready to squeeze icing out onto donuts. Have fun making different icing swirls and squiggles on the donuts.
